Central Coast Flute Circles of San Luis Obispo-Santa Maria-Santa Barbara present

Second Annual Campout Workshop

May 16-18, 2008

TAKING YOUR NATIVE AMERICAN FLUTE PLAYING TO ANOTHER LEVEL!

Recording artist and popular Native American flute player extraordinaire, VINCE CHAFIN, will spend this weekend’s workshop in bringing you to a higher level in your playing. From beginner to intermediate on up to accomplished player, this workshop will hit those fine points so that instead of just making notes, you will be playing music with heart and feeling.

Vince will start with breathing techniques, covering such subjects as breath control, increasing your dynamic range, power and control. Next Vince will concentrate on taking flute sounds and changing them into music by exploring phrasing, melodic expressions, space and timing. Time permitting, he will cover various other subjects such as: performance anxiety and music composition.

Come join this limited group (15) for a chance to spend quality time concentrating on advancing your flute journey, in a beautiful natural setting while ending each day with a campfire jam.  Bring all your flutes, drums, rattles, guitars and any other accompaniment so as to spend a weekend immersed in musical enjoyment.

Cost is $155 for 2 nights lodging (in 10-person gender-separated cabin or your own tent/camper), 5 meals, and all instruction OR $125 for the off-site lodging option (which includes 5 meals and all instruction.)

Registration deadline is Friday, February 22nd (15 participant minimum to guarantee workshop.)  Register online at www.campoceanpines.org or call (805) 927-0254.

6th Annual Stone Soup Storytellers Retreat

September 26-29, 2008

Register early--limited to 30 participants

Set in the pines overlooking the ocean, this is a beautiful setting for professionals to relax and learn from each other. What better incentive to develop new tales and expand your repertoire than to share with other tellers. Of course we'll have good food, good drink, and good company to enjoy.
  • Very informal and unstructured
  • Relaxing--no pressure
  • Telling among ourselves
  • Learning from other tellers
  • Beautiful location and very good food
  • Nice cabins with bathrooms!
Kirk Henning (www.kirkhenning.com), storyteller from Cayucos, will help us design the agenda. We will discuss topics of our choosing, sharing ideas and experiences with all the storytellers! As a bonus treat, we'll reserve some time to swap stories around a MICROPHONE - going home with the "live CD" collection of a pleasant evening of shared stories.

Cost is $235/person for 3 nights, 8 meals and a CD of the recording OR $195/person for 2 nights, 5 meals for those who cannot stay Monday.

For more information, call Chris Cameron, Director of Camp Ocean Pines, at 805-927-0254.
