Humpback Whale Weekend
January 23-25, 2009
This weekend will provide participants with the opportunity to take a deep look into the world of Humpback Whales with information presented by the leading scientist in the field. Dr. Jim Darling will share findings from his studies in the areas of whale song and communication, population numbers, genetics, behavior, and ecology. There will be lectures presenting current findings as well as a field observation day. Attendees will be involved in a whale watching expedition narrated by Dr. Darling. Conference goers will gain a deeper understanding of current whale populations and behavior. There will also be a field observation at The Piedras Blancas elephant seal rookery during the height of their breeding season!
Cost
$245 includes 2 nights, 5 meals, signed humpback book by Jim Darling, whale watching tour ($30 refund if weather cancels). 2 CEU’s for $70 to Cal Poly.

All About Abalone
January 30-February 1, 2009
Camp Ocean Pines is pleased to be hosting this unique weekend conference open to all featuring lectures given by two leading scientists in the field; Dr John Pearse, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology for the California University of Santa Cruz and Dr George Trevelyan Director of Research and Development at the Abalone Farm, Inc in Cayucos, CA. There will be field exploration to find wild abalone as well as a look into aquaculture practices with a behind-the-scenes tour of a working abalone farm. Local chef David Stoothoff will be preparing a gourmet dinner with fresh abalone giving everyone a chance to enjoy this resource at its finest! Cal Poly, San Louis Obispo will offer attendees a chance to receive two continuing education credits. All present will actively engage in exploration and dialogue about California abalone populations and their surrounding ecology as well as human consumption. Hope to see you all in January.

Central Coast Flute Circle Workshop
February 27-March 1, 2009
This weekend workshop is designed to answer your individual playing needs. Vince Chafin style of teaching covers all the basics techniques while at the same time correcting any playing flaws and assist you to become a more gifted player. For those of you who have at our last workshop asked for additional topics, Vince will cover as many as these as time permits. As an added feature, we will have Sunny Nixon, a fine percussionist, join us to enrich our musical experience and learning experience plus bring our playing and jamming to a higher level.
Cost
